Second iPhone 5 Prototype Reportedly Lost in China

A Shenzhen-based accessories supplier has revealed to a Chinese blog that Apple is currently missing not one, but two iPhone 5 prototype devices. The second one was reportedly obtained directly from a Foxconn factory in the Futian district, Shenzhen.

This is reportedly the reason why we’re seeing all these alleged iPhone 5 cases floating around. Apparently, the designs don’t lie. Apple really is launching a teardrop-shaped iPhone this fall, or at least one that borrows the tapered design of the iPad 2 / iPod touch, according to MIC Gadget.

The supplier who allegedly knew about the Foxconn leak said the missing prototype had been enclosed in a case so that it could be disguised.

As some of our readers will recall, last year was the same, when Apple lost an iPhone 4 prototype enclosed in a case that made it look like a 3GS.

However, according to the supplier, this device is larger, so the case was not necessarily intended to make it look like something that’s already out there.

The chassis is reportedly finalized, but the inner workings are said to be “slightly modified iPhone 4 electronics with components such as the A4 chip and even the same amount of memory.”

Although Apple has strengthened security in an attempt to keep such leaks from ever occurring again, the company was reportedly outsmarted, again.

The accessory shop manager said the person who had access to the unit was careful to wipe the phone’s memory so that the GPS wouldn’t work.

This person allegedly sold the prototype to one of the numerous iPhone case manufacturers in China for RMB ¥20,000 (about $3,100), after getting paid himself / herself to take the phone outside the confines of the Foxconn factory.

The report reveals that Foxconn immediately became aware of the theft and punished management for the incident. There are no specifics on what penalties were applied.

It is unclear whether Apple is trying to hunt down the people involved with this second prototype leak, but it is reasonable to assume they are.

Apple Axing Old iPods, Keeping Only Touch-Screen Models - Sources

Unnamed sources cited by an Apple-centric blog seem to confirm an old rumor about Apple discontinuing some old iPod models, particularly the hard-disk-based classic and the screen-free shuffle.

As Apple is slowly but surely transitioning every one of its products to NAND Flash storage, the iPod classic is regarded as an antique, and so is the iPod shuffle which offers the least amount of features in the entire lineup of Apple players.

Apple website, iPod section

While the classic still makes sense for those who love to have huge libraries of music (and videos) with them at all times, it does come with spinning platters inside. The hardware is rapidly becoming obsolete, and Apple is always the first to axe the old.

TUAW has been hearing the same thing. Sources close to the blog and to Apple are signaling that the discontinuation is not far - perhaps to be announced at the October 4 iPhone event.

The shuffle is in the same boat with the classic, as in it will get phased out for becoming irrelevant in the face of touch-based nanos that boast pretty much the same form factor and portability, yet offer much more advanced functionality.

As for the rest of the iPod lineup, the sources say don’t expect much to be changed, and that includes the price of the iPod nano which isn’t incredibly expensive, but would be a much more attractive purchase at, say, $99 for the entry-level 8GB model.

The nano will reportedly become the low-end iPod starting this fall.

As for the iPod touch, Apple is not changing it one bit, the sources say. A couple of Wall Street analysts have speculated that white models are on the launch pad for this year, but there is little evidence of that for now.

FIFA 2012 Arrives on Mac OS X

FIFA fans owning a decently specced Mac can now download FIFA 12 / FIFA Soccer 12 and play the immensely popular sports game for the first time on a Macintosh computer.

Priced at $39,99 in the US / €29.99 in Europe, the best-selling FIFA Soccer franchise is being made available for the first time on the Mac with FIFA Soccer 12.

“FIFA Soccer 12 brings to the pitch the game-changing new Player Impact Engine, a physics engine built to deliver real-world physicality in every interaction on the pitch,” says EA Sports, the publisher.

According to the makers, FIFA 12 delivers revolutionary gameplay innovations inspired by the real-world game.

For example, there’a an all-new Precision Dribbling that creates a higher fidelity of touch on the ball.

This is to be used by players in tight spaces, which gives them more time to decide on their attack, as well as more control over the game’s pace.

A re-designed defending mechanism called Tactical Defending rebalances the game and “fundamentally changes the approach to defending by placing equal importance on positioning, intercepting passes and tackling,” says EA.

“Plus, CPU players have been infused with Pro Player Intelligence, the next generation of player intelligence and performance,” the publisher adds.

Other additions, including True Injuries, and Player Impact Engine, are also described over at GametreeMac, where fans candownload the game right away.

However, before soccer fanatics flock over to the site to buy it, they may want to check with the system requirements just to make sure they pack enough horsepower to run the thing.

For instance, you will need Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) or higher, so Leopard is not supported at all from the get go.

You also want to have at least 4 gigs of RAM which, needless to point out, is quite a lot for a minimum spec.

Supported graphics cards include ATI HD2600 or NVIDIA GeForce 9400M or greater with 256 MB of Video RAM and it is specified in the list of requirements that “this game will not run on the Intel GMA 950 or X3100 class of video cards.”

Finally, you will need just under 7 GB of storage space to install the game and you’ll be requiring both a keyboard and a mouse. They don’t say anything about the Magic Trackpad being supported, but we’re guessing it is.

EA and Virgin Gaming Announced 1.6 Million Dollar Battlefield 3 Tournament

Video game publisher Electronic Arts and Virgin Gaming have announced that they are launching the Battlefield 3 Worldwide Conquest Tournament, which comes complete with a prize chest of 1.6 million dollars, in order to celebrate the launch of the DICE developed first person shooter.
The first stage of the competition will take place online in early 2012 and those who demonstrate their skills will be able to then travel to a physical location and face off live against opponents for a shot at the big prize.

Zachary Zeldin, who is the co-founder of Virgin Gaming, stated, “We’re always looking to raise the bar for our members, to give them truly epic gaming experiences they won’t find anywhere else and Battlefield 3 hits the mark. This partnership with EA and DICE is exactly the kind of relationship it takes to deliver on that goal, and we can’t be more excited to be working with them to host the greatest competitive gaming event I’ve ever seen.”

Virgin Gaming has not yet revealed where the finals will be played but judging from the other collaboration between EA and Virgin Gaming, linked to FIFA 12, London might be a good bet.

Karl Magnus Troedsson, the general manager at DICE, added, “The Battlefield series has always been a very social experience with its best-in-class multiplayer gameplay and we’re honored to have such passionate and loyal fans. We want to give them the best Battlefield experience we’ve ever created with Battlefield 3. The Worldwide Conquest Tournament with Virgin Gaming is a great way to celebrate the gameplay and reward our fans.”

Battlefield 3 has impressed so far with its use of the Frostbite 2 engine and the new environmental destruction options that it offers.

The game will be launched in late October and can be played on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC.

Windows 8 Metro Apps Need Close Buttons Too

Early adopters that have played with the first public preview Build of Windows 8, whether on the Samsung Windows Developer Preview PC or their own test machine, have undoubtedly tried to close a Metro application, and found out that it’s not as easy as it seems.

Looking at the feedback shared on the new Windows Dev Center, it’s obvious that I’m not the only one missing the desktop mechanism for closing down programs.
“Exit Developer Preview Apps (aka Closing Metro Apps)” is the most popular forum post in the Windows Developer Preview: General OS questions category in terms of views, and I think it would have gathered input from even more early adopters running Windows 8, had it not been closed.

Two weeks ago, Microsoft released Windows Developer Preview, a pre-Beta release of Windows 8, namely Build 8102 Milestone 3 (M3). At BUILD, the software giant also handed out some 5,000 units of the Samsung Windows Developer Preview PC to participants.

But regardless of the device on which testers are running Windows 8 pre-Beta, there’s only one way to close Metro apps for good. Users need to start the good old, albeit overhauled, Task Manager which still ships as a part of the traditional desktop in Windows 8, and then get rid of opened Metro applications by selecting each one and hitting End Task.

This process is tedious, and unnecessarily complex. Putting users through the pain of going to the Task Manager every time that they want to close a Metro app is easily avoidable by equipping such programs with a Close button.

It’s simple to understand what the Redmond company is doing, just by looking at alternative form factors that are available on the market today and their operating systems. Closing down applications is not really that big of a deal.

I don’t miss this feature on my smartphone, and I’m not sure that I even want it either. It feels natural to me to use a certain app, then go back to the main screen, launch another program, and then do it all over again.

Windows 8 does this with Metro apps. Whenever the user fires up a new application, any other Metro apps are pushed to the background and into suspend mode, which means they’re not using any resources, while for all purposes intended, still not being closed down.

I don’t have an issue with this mechanism per se. I believe that if users want to have one or two active programs, and a bunch of Metro apps suspended, but ready to resume in an instant, they should.

But going back and forth simply seems unnatural to me when I’m using Windows 8. So I also believe that Microsoft should supply an easy mechanism for closing down Metro apps when they’re no longer needed.

I want to share a bit of my own experience. The way I see it, navigation between Metro apps is the biggest problem.

When I got to play with the Samsung Windows 8 Developer Preview PC, I treated it, well, as I would any PC, and this means that I was multitasking just as I normally am. So I would very quickly end up with a number of Metro apps opened simultaneously.

Swiping my fingers sideways from the left hand side of the NUI Windows 8 device, was the easiest way to navigate between apps, only that it took me to the last app I opened, even if it was suspended.

Repeating the gesture again and again permitted me to effectively circle through all opened Metro apps. And this is the caveat of the system. It meant that on several occasions I had to revisit apps that I was no longer using, or wanted to use, just because they were just sitting there, suspended, between the apps that I was running.

Let’s say you open a Tweeter Metro app, then play nine games and then Internet Explorer 10. You’d have to resume all of the nine games in order to get from the Metro app you’re using to IE10, only because there’s no way to tell any of the applications you’re not using that you don’t want them to remain suspended.

There should be a way, and an easy one. And Microsoft could perhaps also consider a better mechanism to streamline navigation between Metro apps when multitasking.

One alternative is to purchase private label rights products but considerable revision needs to be done in order to personalize the product and make it look like your own.

One of the most popular internet based techniques is affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is widely considered as one of the best internet based home businesses. A reason for it popularity is that the products is already available. This cuts down on the development time and the effort in building a new product from scratch. A downside to this form of business is that you work on commissions, so you only pocket a part of the earnings resulting from the sale. The commission amount depends on the products but is usually around 10 to 40 percent. It is highly unlikely to find products that share even half of the sale earnings.

The iPhone 5 Set To Boost Video Recording To 1080P

Author: Emma Rosher

There has been no confirmation about the specification that we can expect on the forthcoming iPhone 5. Rather than focus on the various rumors flying around at the moment we thought that it may be a good idea to take a look at some of the features the consumer would like to see incorporated in this new model upon its release.
With the iPhone 4 sporting 720P video capture we should expect nothing less on the iPhone 5 and perhaps even an update to the highest quality 1080P recording. The advantage of capturing footage in this quality is that it will look superb on a compatable large screen television. On the older models consumers needed to purchase a special converter from Apple to enable the device to be plugged into a television. Android handsets on the other hand come complete with a micro HDMI socket which enables the simple connection to other equipment. This is something iPhone users would love to see on the new phone and their wish may well come true as Apple are set to incorporate Airplay Mirroring into the new phone. This concept revolves around you watching material on a large screen at the same time as it is displayed on the phones own display. Given the focus Apple have placed on this feature and the benefits that a micro HDMI connection would have do not be surprised to see one added to the new models specification.
Something missing from previous iPhones was the option to add removable memory and it is something that many users would like to see on the new iPhone 5. This type of memory normally takes the form of a micro SD card slot and enables the user to insert a card up to 32GB in size to expand the phones own internal storage. The card has many advantages because being removable it can easily be plugged into another device such as a laptop in order to view material. The chances of this being implemented however are fairly slim as the phone is set to sport some of the highest internal storage currently available. There is no question that we will see a 16GB model and a 32GB model and there is talk of a premium 64GB device being released so the need for external storage is greatly reduced. It is however an aspect of previous iPhones that customers disliked so there is always a chance Apple may bow to public pressure and facilitate this feature.
The iPhone 5 is bound to be a massive success upon its release but we cannot help but feel that the inclusion of features such as we have mentioned above would further add to the handsets appeal in the marketplace.
The iPhone 5 is coming soon and the iPhone 4 is available now.

How to Select the Ideal Web Conferencing Service

Author: andy

Just as no two businesses are identical, web conferencing providers vary in not just the services they offer, but the features that come with them. If you're searching for the ideal conferencing solution that will meet your business's current and future needs, then you're in luck – as this blog is meant for you! (Of course, you could always give one of our professional account managers a call today to discuss your options as well).
While many providers offer web conferencing services that address the needs of many businesses, there is no "one size fits all" web conferencing solution. The first step to finding the best conferencing solution to meet your business's unique needs is to understand your needs. Consider the following:
  • The size of your audience – web conferencing services that are subscription-based limit the number of participants allowed in each meeting. Of course the number of participants will vary depending on the meetings you conduct, so make sure you choose a solution that will support the maximum number of participants you plan on having – whether it be with 2, 200, or 2,000
  • Software requirements – what (if any) software is needed to conduct a web conference? While some require simply a web browser and connection to the Internet, others require specific plug-ins or additional installations
  • Attendee management – many providers offer ways to help you organize your conferences, including automated reminders and follow-ups, invitation and registration management, and email templates
  • Multiple hosts/presenters – do you plan on sharing the hosting or presenting role with a partner or co-worker? Look for a solution that allows you to pass control to and from one or more participant(s) throughout the duration of your conference
Now that we have covered the big topics, it's time to get down to the fun stuff. While they might seem small, the features that come with your web conferencing service play a big part in how effectively you can communicate your message. Here are a few things to take into account when evaluating your next potential web conferencing solution:
  • Sharing – this plays a major role in your ability to communicate with your participants. While simple file sharing is standard for most web conferencing services, you may also want to consider solutions that offer whiteboard and desktop sharing for enhanced collaboration
  • Recording – whether you'd like to record your meetings for personal improvement, to aid in employee information retention or training, or to simply let anyone who missed it catch up, the ability to record and store your meetings offers many advantages
  • Chat and private sub chat – allow your participants to ask you or other attendees a question or send a comment either publicly to the whole group, or privately to one or two participants during the conference
  • Surveys and polls – provide instant feedback both during and after your conferences
  • Reports ad stats – offer concise yet in-depth look into the results of your meetings

They will be responsible for finding other champions in other locations to help broaden the reach throughout the company.
Step Two:
Make sure your stage is set. Make sure that your network has the proper bandwidth, quality and other performance related issues. Typically, a network has a 2MB bandwidth. This is a sufficient amount of bandwidth to support HD connectivity and content. It will also be necessary to make sure that you have the scheduling tools and usage instructions for the rooms.
Step Three:
Promote your video conferencing system. Just like the big screen, promote your premier conference. Hold a launch party and invite all the business personnel and have live demonstrations.

The GPRS Technology and Its Uses

Author: Frank Solan

Mobile phones, one of the best gadgets for communication ever invented, have become more of a necessity today. With the rapid advancement of technology, mobile phones have changed beyond recognition both from the technological as also aesthetic viewpoint.

One of the most significant technological advancement that cell phones these days boast of is GPRS. It has almost become a necessary feature in even entry-level mobile phones.

Let's take a look at what GPRS is all about and what it can foster.

The general packet radio service i.e. GPRS, is a latest technology being incorporated in cell phones. It's a non-voice technology which enables the mobile phone to connect itself to the internet in a much cheaper and faster way. In simpler terms, GPRS helps your cell phone go online.

Unlike any current wireless digital internet connection, no dial-up modem is required in the GPRS service and it's nearly ten times faster compared to current GSM networks. You can log on to the World Wide Web at speeds of up to 171.2 kbps with a GPRS-enabled cell phone and you have to pay only for the data you transfer and not for the full length of your login time.

A GPRS enabled mobile phone enables you to enjoy uninterrupted wireless access to the internet even if you're on the move. You can access your favorite websites, web applications and entertainment services. You can also download and enjoy the various types of Java games on your cell phone.

Apart from the above there are several other things that you can do with GPRS. Here are a few of them.

Easy email access

With continuous internet connectivity, checking emails on the go, in a GPRS enable mobile phone is very easy. The alert mechanism of the GPRS technology, when linked to the email service, notifies the user whenever a new mail arrives at the inbox.

Web browsing

Enjoying faster browsing of the internet is possible with a GPRS enabled cellular phone. In fact, with its feature of collaborative working and document sharing, several people from multiple locations can work on a common document simultaneously.

File transfer

While transferring or downloading files, the information available can be via one of the several internet communication methods like FTP, HTTP, Java, telnet etc. or from a proprietary legacy platform or database. The process of file transfer is usually bandwidth intensive. The speed of a GPRS enable mobile phone, however, flows across mobile networks, making it really fast, regardless of the type of file you intend to transfer.

Images and video

A GPRS enabled cell phone, allows posting of greetings cards, photographs and even multimedia presentations from a web or digital camera connected to the GPRS service, directly onto a website.

Besides the above, remote LAN access and chatting on the web can also be done with a GPRS enabled cell phone. Mobile operators are including more services to the GPRS ambit, as 3G technology is yet to come under the grasp of the common man and relatively more expensive.

FAX (Facsimile Telegraphy) – Facsimile telegraphy deals with the transmission of typewritten or handwritten message , drawings , graphics , pictures or any matter which cannot be sent through telegraphs , telephones or teleprinters. This machine operates by converting the variances of light reflected from the image of the original matter into electrical impulses which can be reconverted onto the image from on reception . Connections can be made over very long distances using the public telephone networks or radio links.

Fax is perhaps the speediest system presently available and transmitting and receiving a standard letter size document takes approximately four minutes, irrespective of the amount of matter on it. In this system there is no scope for copying errors and so high order skills required at high skills. Even typed matter can be transmitted more effectively through fax than through the teleprinter since the former completely does away with the element of checking for errors inadvertently incorporated during transmittal of the matter.

ELECTRONIC MAIL (E-Mail) – This , too is a progeny of computer technology. It facilities the transmittal of messages through the use of computer storage and computer inter-links , thus eliminating postal delays. The message is simply keyed into the system. The signals, converted into digital pulses are stored in the computer’s memory for retrieval. The message can be retrieved at the recipient’s convenience. Thus apart from being time saving , electronic mail is a more convenient and unobtrusive method of sending a message as the sender can be sure of not disturbing the recipient. In close inhouse communication, links are established either by the CPU of computer network internet workstations. In distant communication between offices at different locations , an extensive network of microwave or satellite technology is used for the transmission of electronic mail.

Usually group communication takes place in person , in the same room but the new technology provides a facility for discussion with the group of persons on the internet . You can conduct a meeting , hold a group discussion or brief people scattered across the country or around the world. You can consult a number of experts through computers using decision support systems for their views before making a decision or for finalizing a plan of action. In teleconferencing , the attention is focused on the idea or concept that is being communicated. This is an advantage of the method but sometimes this overemphasis on the message with a corresponding neglect of the person communicating it, may not be fully in tune with the corporate culture , which needs dynamic medium of communication.

How Do Solar Panels Work?

Author: Ryan Kaufman

In rural areas, particularly in places where utility power is not available, solar panels are the answer. Irrespective of where electrical power is needed, be it for a mountain top cabin, a cruising sailboat or a family home, there is a solar system to fill the needs. We will delve into the details on how do solar panels work.

Solar panels harvest the sun's energy to produce electricity to power lights and appliances or for any use that requires electrical power.

Solar photovoltaic cells are arranged in a grid-like pattern on the surface of the solar panel. These solar voltaic cells collect sunlight during the day and convert it into energy. Energy is created when sunlight strikes the solar panels crystals and causes some electrons to break loose.

The amount of power produced depends largely on the quality of the solar panels and the technology in making it. Panels of special semiconductors like silicon convert the sun's energy directly into electricity.

Of the three main types of solar panels available, monocrystalline panels have the highest output per cell area and are the most expensive. Polycrystalline cells are slightly less expensive. Thin film type, though considered unbreakable, are only half as efficient per cell area.

We are now moving closer to harnessing the full potential of solar energy, but much has still to be done in terms of research to make it cost-efficient before it can be used on a widespread basis. The advantages of using solar panels to harvest the energy of the sun for general household use will dramatically cut electric bills and reduce pollution.

Solar modules are used to harness solar energy. These modules can be customized to cater for different power generation needs. On a commercial basis, the modules of crystalline silicon is the most efficient available. These modules are designed in complete packages for residential, commercial and industrial purposes.

Solar panels in the past have been of silicon but as silicon is becoming more expensive, research have turned to other materials. Lately, a whole new type of solar panel is produced. They are made of plastic and the price is comparatively cheap. These plastic panels work just as well to power just about any appliance that is used in a home out in a remote location.

Solar panels are mostly placed on the roof. The power generated is transmitted to a battery for storage and household power needs are drawn from this storage.

Solar energy is also most suitable for heating water for household use, swimming pools and hot tubs. The best thing about solar power is that it does not release harmful emissions or effluents leading to global warming, acid rains and smog .

Research and competition is slowly bringing down the price of solar panels. Solar panels used to be popular in rural areas but now the scenario is changing and solar power is fast entering the urban areas. When , one day , the use of solar energy for household use becomes a common practice , power companies will have to decrease rates to the benefit of everybody irrespective of whether the household uses solar panels or not .

If you are thinking of installing solar panels for your home use , ensure that your property have good access to sunlight . Be prepared also to spend in the region of more than $ 20,000. This may look expensive but it will save you a lot in the long run .

The utility of solar panels is great. Having solar panels installed to your home, you can live anywhere even in rural areas without foregoing the conveniences of the city and without having to install expensive electrical line extensions from noisy generators.

With electricity immediately available, you can enjoy all the facilities you would have enjoyed in your urban home, with an added bonus of being free from noise and pollution through the use of solar panels.

How To Import MP3 Audiobooks Into iTunes

Author: Bill Urell

Steps on how to import MP3 audiobooks into iTunes.

Do you remember the time when people listened to vinyl records? Probably not. Well, the vinyl record is the grandfather of the compact disc. The basic audio CD format most people know has been everywhere for over two decades now.

For this reason, when it comes to audiobooks, CDs are the most popular digital format.

Over time, additional formats came about which worked to the benefit of the audiobook industry. MP3 CDs were developed in the past five years. This format is so compatible for audiobooks because the audiodata is stored in the MP3 format that is compressed. Usually it is the audio that is fit within the disk space, therefore the low quality format.

Of course, music lovers do not want low quality music. The same goes out to the lovers of listening to audiobooks. Low resolution MP3 CDs do not sound great at all. Audiobooks may fit on one MP3 CD but the purchaser must make sure that it is of good quality.

But there are those who can just import their MP3 audiobooks into iTunes. When this is done, it is easier to organize your library.

1. Insert the iTunes CD and let it lead you to the Desktop or the option with the My Computer icon.

2. Open the CD using Windows Explorer or Finder. Locate ???playlist.m3u??? file.

3. Click twice (double-click) so that you can open it with your iTunes. If iTunes does not pop up automatically, you can bring it out manually.

4. The CD will automatically play simultaneously as iTunes start importing the selected files that have been obtained from your playlist.

5. Press the Play button twice so that the playback will end.

6. Let iTunes finish importing the MP3 files from the MP3 CDs. This may take quite a long time (depends on how fast your optical drive is) but when it does finish the importing process, iTunes analyzes the sound volume of each track. Take some time to finish that one too.

7. Your main goal is to have a window showing all of your imported tracks.

8. Choose all the tracks to create the audiobook. From the Advanced menu, select the Convert Selection and change it to AAC. This will eventually convert the tracks of your audiobook from the large MP3s to a smaller AAC file.

9. Converting your MP3 files to AAC or any audio format is said to be a bad idea because there is a possibility that the quality of the audio might be degraded. The whole purpose of importing MP3 files to AAC is to throw out the unnecessary audio information in order to make the files smaller.

10. It may take much of your time but patience is the key. As soon as it finishes importing, make sure that you duplicate each track on your library.

11. Click on the Kind column so you can begin sorting out the files. Making it easier for you to choose all the MP3 files, you can press the Delete key so that you can throw out all the items from your iTunes Library. Afterwards, press the Move to Trash icon that is located in the dialog appearing on the page. This is for you to be able to recover some disk space.

12. Again, this will take some time. From the File option, select Get Info. For short cut, you can press Command (Control Key) and letter I. This will open the Multiple Song Information window.

13. You can edit all the information by inputting the chapter to chapter, author, book title and genre of the Audiobook on your library. You can edit it in the exact same way you put the information such as track to track, Artist, Album and Genre for your music files.

You can always switch to the Options panel in order for you to check the Skip when shuffling as well as the Remember playback position.

For the Remember playback position, the iPod and the iTunes allow the file to be bookmarked. This is very convenient for iPod audiobook listeners because it can serve like a bookmark to a novel they are reading. Only this time, when you press play, it will automatically start where you left it.

Transferring your MP3 CDs to iTunes may be difficult but if you are investing on audiobooks, you might as well have patience and go through the entire process once for a lifetime of listening enjoyment.

Google+ opens social network to everyone

Vic Gundotra, Google's senior vice president of social business: "We think there's lots of room for innovation"
Google+ is being opened up for anyone to join after two-and-a-half months in closed testing.
The search firm's latest foray into social networking was initially offered to journalists and people working in technology related fields.
However, members' ability to invite friends meant its user base quickly grew to tens of millions.
Google+ has been praised for several innovative features including its multi person "hangouts" video chat.
Two weeks after it launched, the company announced that its service had attracted 10 million users.
It has not produced official figures since then, although estimates by web analytic firm Comscore put membership at 25 million by the end of the first month.
Despite users' apparently rapid uptake, research carried out by Australian web software maker 89n suggested that the rate of public posting was declining. The survey did not take account of private postings.
Social search
Alongside its full public launch, Google is adding several new features to the service, including video hangouts on Android smartphones - allowing multi-person chats.
Users will also be able to share the content of their computer screens with whoever they are talking to.

Another notable addition is the integration of search within Google+, allowing members to find results from socially shared information, as well as across the wider web.
The prospect of "social search" through Google would appeal to businesses, according to social networking specialist Matt Rhodes from Fresh Networks.
"Brands know that a lot of people who come to them come through search and anything they can do make themselves come up through the right terms or higher up the rankings is important. Commercially that is the opportunity," he said.
"If you are logged into Google and search for supermarkets, if some of my friends have plus 1'd Tesco or commented about it, that might push Tesco above Sainsbury's in my search results."
Myspace founder Tom Anderson - an active Google+ user - told BBC News: "Failure is not an option for Google on this. The fate of their business depends on social in the long run, so I think they'll keep tweaking and reminding users until they get it right."
Rivals' response
The rise of Google+ has not gone un-noticed by its competitors.
Facebook has recently rolled out a number of innovations which many observers have characterised as a direct response to the Google challenge, although the company argues that these have been in the pipeline for far longer.
These include a revamp of the social network's friend system, making in easier to add people to categories, similar to Google Circles.
Earlier this week it was revealed that Facebook users would be able to connect their status updates directly to their Twitter feed, in a move that may enhance the appeal of both Google rivals.
Conversely, Google finds itself in the unusual position of being a minority player in the market, facing Twitter's 200 million users and Facebook's 750 million.
Vic Gundotra, Google's senior vice president of social business told the BBC that he welcomed the competition.
"We suspect people use many different tools to share," he said.
"The most popular mechanism people use to share today is email. So we think there's lots of room for innovation."

Apple Creating a Magazine Publishing Tool for Developers?

By: Anthony Morganti

Since the iPad was announced over a year ago, one of the uses that seemed to be natural for it was that of a Magazine and Newspaper reader. Real life results, unfortunately have been mixed. Many magazines such as WiredPopularScience and The Economist were on the iPad shortly after launch. Others such as Rupert Murdoch’s The Daily and Sir Richard Branson’s Project appeared with much fanfare but mixed reaction.
The main problems users report are that the magazine interfaces aren’t consistent from one magazine to another and these interfaces generally aren’t intuitive.
This is counter to what most users of Apple software - whether it’s OS X or iOS - are accustomed too.  Apple has a rather large document for their developers;Apple Human Interface Guidelines. This document describes, in excruciating detail, how an Apple App should look and act.
These guidelines are built-in to Apple’s developer tools in the form of templates. That’s why Apps for OS X and iOS operate similarly from one to another and because of that, they’re reasonably intuitive for the user.
I’m hearing that Apple is developing a magazine template that will be in a future release of their developer environment and toolkit - Xcode.
This publishing template will create a familiar consistent user interface. It also will facilitate in-app purchases for subscriptions and back issues. Another benefit Apple anticipates is that there will be a plethora of new magazines on the iPad. They believe that anyone will be able to create a magazine relatively easily and have it published by Apple and sold through iTunes.
I'm told; “Imagine a guy drawing and writing a comic book. He can’t sell it to Marvel or DC so he hooks up with a programmer and within days, he’s getting his comic book published and sold on iTunes.”
Of course, a comic book is just one example. I could see all kinds of these “Garage Magazines” as I call them, being created. Undoubtedly, quality would vary widely.
Apple hopes to have this implemented by the end of the year.

How to Configure VOIP/SIP client for Windows Mobile 6 SIP

Author: David Nalin

Configuring VOIP and SIP client services for Windows Mobile 6 SIP is simple. Typically, devices that support such services for Windows Mobile 6 SIP come pre-bundled and installed. However, if you are getting a free phone, as opposed to purchasing a new Softphone, you might need to manually configure VOIP and the SIP client.
  • To configure VOIP and SIP client for a Windows Mobile 6 SIP compatible phone, you must first check in the Windows directory to ensure the following files are present: rtcdll.dll, voipphonecanvas.dll, dnsapi.dll, and ipdialplan.xml.
  • NOTE: If any of these files are not present before configuring VOIP and SIP client for Windows Mobile 6 SIP, you will have to go out to the net and download the files to ensure you are ready to configure before actually doing so. Configuring services for Windows Mobile 6 SIP without having these files will disable many important functions and processes that you need for your Windows Mobile 6 SIP compatible phone.
  • Next, you will need to create a setup XML file to hold and store all applicable programs and applications to keep your Windows Mobile 6 SIP compatible phone running properly. This is the file directory you will be transferring the actual device.
  • Then, create a _setup.xml file with all parameters for your Windows Mobile 6 SIP applications. If you do not know how to do this, there are many files available online that are quick and easy to run.
  • Next, type the following command into a dos prompt: cabarc N myvoipsettings.cab_setup.xml. This command will go out and access the file you just made. Transfer this file onto your Windows Mobile 6 SIP phone.
  • Rename the setup file with a .txt file extension. It will be transferred as _setup.xml and you change it to _setup.txt. Although it is essential, this step is often missed in configuring services for Windows Mobile 6 SIP.
  • Delete _sip_provider_name_ and enter the name of your actually SIP/VOIP provider. Your mobile device must be aware of what SIP/VOIP service provider you are using.
  • Change _account_and_password to your actual username and password. This will ensure you can get into the administrator tools for your device in the future.
  • Where you see SIP: user@sip_host.com_, replace with your SIP address.
  • Go back and save the file as _setup.xml and the run the cabarc N voip.cab_setup.xml.
  • Now, you will need to go back and ensure the provisioning/parameter setting worked. To do this, check for the file ProvOSIPSettings file is present under the file tree of \Windows\System\VoIP.
Configuring services for Windows Mobile 6 SIP compatible phones can be simple if you have the right files setup beforehand. Lacking in any of these steps above will lead to a real mess; you would basically have to delete everything and start over. Your Windows directories will never know what you are trying to do unless you have the right dll files. Following the steps above will ensure you have a Windows Mobile 6 SIP client that works properly.

Amazon Kindle How-to Series: Replacing the Battery on Your Amazon Kindle

Author: Michael Piston

Since the Amazon Kindle is a fairly new innovation, most owners have not had their Kindle e-book reader long enough to require a new battery. However, if you use your Kindle frequently and charge it often then you may get to the point where the battery doesn't seem to last as long as when your Kindle was new. This is not an usual phenomenon - most rechargeable batteries have a "life" measured in number of re-charges.
Another reason that you may wish to replace the battery on your Kindle is that you are going to be using it for a long period of time and can't charge it. For example let's say you are planning a trip with a long international airplane flight. In this case you can take two (or more) fully charged Kindle batteries with you and replace them as required.
To save battery life, the Kindle goes into a "sleep" mode if you have not been reading an e-book or listening to an audio book for a long period of time. You'll recognize when your Kindle has entered "sleep" mode because a screen saver will appear on your screen in-place of the book you were reading. Kindle comes with built-in screen savers, or you can check the site in the resource box below to learn how-to create your own.
Your Amazon Kindle has a built-in battery power meter you will find at the bottom right-side of the screen. The battery power meter is right next to the wireless signal strength meter. It's sometimes easy to get these meters confused. The wireless signal strength indicator appears as a bar graph with a small antenna in-front of the first bar. When your battery power meter shows nearly all white you know it's either time to recharge your Kindle or replace your battery. If the power meter goes down quickly after a charge it may be time to replace your battery.
Here's how you replace the battery on your Amazon Kindle:
1. Turn-off your Kindle
2. Find a soft cloth or other means to protect the face of your Kindle
3. Place your Kindle face down on a flat, secure surface
4. Slide the gray back cover off of your Kindle
5. You will see the gray battery in it's compartment
6. Note the battery compartment has a rounded "notch" on one end
7. Using your finger (not a screwdriver or any other device that might damage your Kindle)gently push the battery to the back of the compartment then lift it out
8. The battery is attached to your Kindle by a white plastic connector and several wires
9. GENTLY pull the white connector back until the battery is disconnected from your Kindle
10. Attach your new battery by pushing the white wiring connector into the proper location in the battery compartment
11. Seat the battery into the back of the battery compartment - make sure the white wiring connector is attached properly
12. Press the battery down at the front of the battery compartment - note that the battery and the compartment have a small notch and grove to help you line-up the battery
13. Replace the cover
14 Turn on your Kindle and you're ready to get back to reading your favorite e-book or listening to your favorite audio book
Congratulations! You have just learned how-to replace the battery in your Amazon Kindle.
While this is not a procedure everyone will do regularly it's helpful to know either when your battery does not hold a charge or if you are traveling with more than one charged battery.
One more important point! The battery in your Amazon Kindle is made from Lithium Polymer. It should be disposed of properly - likely at a battery recycling center located near you.

Global positioning systems are widely in use today for navigation, map making, land surveying fishing, treks, and many scientific applications. GPS receivers can be incorporated into cars, boats, computers, mobile phones watches and more.

There are many advantages of having a GPS system:

1. A gps system comes with a “panic” button. When this button is pressed an operator at the gps carrier can listen in on the conversation and either help you out or alert the authorities. This will keep you safe in case of accidents or hi jacks.

2. Your car will never loose your car at a football match or mall. The gps service will track the car for you and send its lights flashing.

3. If your vehicle is ever stolen the gps system will track the vehicle and the authorities will be able to get it back in no time.

4. A gps system in a car, boat, plane or haversack will ensure that you are never lost.

5. A gps system streamlines supply chains and truck movements. The system can track goods at any point of time and accurately predict when goods will reach their destination.

6. Gps systems are used to detect structural problems in buildings and roads and to predict disasters like earthquakes and so on. The scientific applications of a gps system are many.

7. A gps system can be used to locate a lost child, pet or family. The device is quite small and is like a watch or button on a collar.

8. A gps is a great exercise monitor and will help you keep track of your spped and so on.

A word of caution before signing up for a gps system find out what you are paying for and what the monthly fee will cover.

Gps systems have so many uses; they help determine weather patterns, can be used in conjunction with cameras, have varied use in military and have great use in surveying for volcanic eruptions, sink holes, movements in the earth’s plates and so on.

A word of caution before signing up for a gps system find out what you are paying for and what the monthly fee will cover.
