FIFA fans owning a decently specced Mac can now download FIFA 12 / FIFA Soccer 12 and play the immensely popular sports game for the first time on a Macintosh computer.
Priced at $39,99 in the US / €29.99 in Europe, the best-selling FIFA Soccer franchise is being made available for the first time on the Mac with FIFA Soccer 12.
“FIFA Soccer 12 brings to the pitch the game-changing new Player Impact Engine, a physics engine built to deliver real-world physicality in every interaction on the pitch,” says EA Sports, the publisher.
According to the makers, FIFA 12 delivers revolutionary gameplay innovations inspired by the real-world game.
For example, there’a an all-new Precision Dribbling that creates a higher fidelity of touch on the ball.
This is to be used by players in tight spaces, which gives them more time to decide on their attack, as well as more control over the game’s pace.
A re-designed defending mechanism called Tactical Defending rebalances the game and “fundamentally changes the approach to defending by placing equal importance on positioning, intercepting passes and tackling,” says EA.
“Plus, CPU players have been infused with Pro Player Intelligence, the next generation of player intelligence and performance,” the publisher adds.
Other additions, including True Injuries, and Player Impact Engine, are also described over at GametreeMac, where fans candownload the game right away.
However, before soccer fanatics flock over to the site to buy it, they may want to check with the system requirements just to make sure they pack enough horsepower to run the thing.
For instance, you will need Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) or higher, so Leopard is not supported at all from the get go.
You also want to have at least 4 gigs of RAM which, needless to point out, is quite a lot for a minimum spec.
Supported graphics cards include ATI HD2600 or NVIDIA GeForce 9400M or greater with 256 MB of Video RAM and it is specified in the list of requirements that “this game will not run on the Intel GMA 950 or X3100 class of video cards.”
Finally, you will need just under 7 GB of storage space to install the game and you’ll be requiring both a keyboard and a mouse. They don’t say anything about the Magic Trackpad being supported, but we’re guessing it is.
